Dr. Chris Hopkinson, Research Scientist

Chris is a leading figure in the international LiDAR research community. He manages the LiDAR lab at AGRG and coordinates all airborne laser terrain mapping operations for AGRG and Canadian Consortium for LiDAR Environmental Applications Research (C-CLEAR) projects around the world (see AGRG LiDAR data inventory). His primary research interests are watershed hydrology, forest canopy structure, glacier mass balance, climate change impacts on water resources, and testing LiDAR sensors for their suitability for environmental and natural resources assessment. In addition to teaching a LiDAR course at COGS and supervising a number of graduate students, he has sat on several scientific advisory committees and organised numerous workshops and symposia. He was the primary editor of the book Hydroscan: Airborne laser mapping of hydrologic features and resources.
