Strategic Partners

AGRG works with partners from every sector – public, private, academic, as well as NGOs. We have worked with leading organizations in each of these sectors on educational, research, and economic opportunities. These partnerships have greatly benefited communities across Nova Scotia.

We recognize that new technologies – sensor systems, software, instrumentation – will be invented and applied to a wide range of environmental concerns which will have an impact on both people and the landscape. From our location in rural Nova Scotia, we see the opportunity to apply and integrate these technologies within our ‘natural’ laboratory. This includes:

  • Annapolis valley
  • Bay of Fundy
  • Southwest Nova
  • Atlantic Canada

The surrounding geography allows us to address specific environmental health issues as well as the GI Science issues of scale, spatial and temporal variations. We will also look at human observation systems such as community mapping and citizen science.

The Canadian Consortium for LiDAR Environmental Applications Research

One of our most important partners is the not-for-profit Canadian Consortium for LiDAR Environmental Applications Research, a non-profit organization comprising academic and government researchers in fields related to environmental geomatics. C-CLEAR’s mandate is to promote research into high-resolution environmental impact and natural resource assessment techniques using LiDAR technology.

C-CLEAR at AGRG:

AGRG assists C-CLEAR with field research operations, by allowing use of the ALTM for up to approximately four weeks of every year. C-CLEAR assists AGRG by expanding its network of research contacts and interests, and by offering LiDAR diploma students and interns a unique training experience by providing them the opportunity to participate in C-CLEAR field data collection and processing operations.

Community Partners

Academic Institutions

We operate a number of high end technologies (airborne LiDAR, ground based LiDAR). Through C-CLEAR we perform applied Geomatics research in collaboration with Research Scientists at universities and government labs across the country. These projects often require industry internships or practicums at AGRG.

Government

Government agencies need Geomatics for landscape management and also to conduct research. We provide government the same arrangement as we do to universities and the private sector. We are interested in collaborative applied research, and we’ll provide retraining for government employees – either project specific or working toward an Advanced Diploma or joint M.Sc. degree.

Private Sector

We work closely with technology and service providers. Since we employ sophisticated technology in applied research, there is the opportunity for technology transfer to the private sector, including expertise, students, employees or data.

We work with technology providers to collaborate on the new applications for their systems. We will work with application users to ensure cost effective use of the new technology. And we will not knowingly compete with companies that provide services using the same technologies we use for applied research.
